Hawaii – Day 3 [Waipio Valley]
Day 3 was still overcast, nice weather just overcast. We decided to go this amazing place called Waipio Valley. I don’t think I have ever seen something so amazing. You would think that a place like this only existed centuries ago.
We decended down a trail 1,000 feet to this huge valley on the ocean shore. It took about 20 mins just to get to the bottom.
It is too hard to describe in words, you have to see the pics.
And the hour long hike back up was a nice workout for the day too.
Hawaii Day 2 [The Beach]
The weather was a bit forecast but we decided to hit the beach anyways. Hey, we’re in Hawaii, we have to go, right? It was a lot of fun with the waves, body surfing and the boogie board.
Later in the afternoon we hit a more secluded beach and did some snorkeling, we say a bunch of smaller fish, pretty cool.
Hawaii – Day 1 [Flight]
The title pretty much sums it all up. Our flight left at 11:00 am and we ended up in Kona at about 8:00, Hawaii time, that is midnight our time. Yeah, long day.
Installing Vista – RTM: Error no. 0×8007045D
I was going to Instlal the new Windows Vista, so first I thought I would simply do an upgrade.
Got into Windows and opened up the install from the DVD. I choose “Upgrade”. It asked for my key and I entered it in successfully.
Next it asked me if I wanted to check for updates online, I choose to.
It then begen to copy windows files. It felt like this was taking FOREVER. Stuck at 9% then finally something happened. I thought it was done, but no, it gave me an error stating that it couldn’t copy all the required files. Error code 0×8007045D
Hmm, ok, well, lets just try again and see what happeneds. I went through the same motions and well, this time it got to 20% and hung there forever, literally an hour or so. I got impatient and aborted.
This doesn’t seem to be working, lets just go with a fresh install.
I boot back up into Windows then run the Vista Install again. I choose to do a full install this time. It tells me it will reboot multiple times, “Copying Windows files …”
Ok.
Hmm, so back to this step again. I don’t have a good feeling at this point.. All right, about ten minutes into it seems to be stuck at 14%… My DVD-ROM is making a clunking noise every once in a while. That can’t be good.
Once again I get the same error.
Ok, lets try the install again. Looking much better this time, but then ended up bombing at 32%. I googled the error code, looks like I am not the only one:

I am going to try and copy the contents of the DVD to my backup HDD and run the setup from there.
That was the ticket. I started the install from my second HDD and it went as smooth as could be. So maybe there is something wrong with my DVD-ROM. In any case I now have Windows Vista. It’s about time.
Now it’s play time!
Windows XP Media Center Install needs CD labled Severice Pack 2
Seems pretty simple right?
imple if I actually had a CD labled Service Pack 2! My first approach was to just proceed without it. After install it was pretty apparent that I needed this CD. Pretty much nothing would work, my IE icon was even broken. When I would try to install drivers it would tell me that my Remote Procedure Call (RPC) service was not running. Isn’t this always running?
So I tried to reinstall with a different approach. This time I figured I would download Service Pack 2 extract the files onto my second HDD and point to this when it prompts me for the CD.
The time came for me to insert the CD labled Service Pack 2, I pointed to the SP2 directory that I had downloaded. It’s working! Oh wait, maybe not. Missing files. Found it, oh, missing another file, yeah, this isn’t working.
Back to Google, why has no one else ran into this but me? Well when googling one of those missing files I finally found someone else with the same problem. He was trying to do the same thing as me. He download SP2 and did the same thing as me when prompted.
Finally someone had the answer, when Windows asks you to insert the CD labled Service Pack 2 just put the 1st Install CD back in.
That’s it, so simple, so much headache for nothing…
